Kohtaaminen metson kanssa - Meet with Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus)

Rakitsan vaara on helmikuun alussa täynnään huurretta. Mikä tahansa musta täplä metsässä kiinnittää hiihtäjän huomiota, kuten vasemman puoleisessa kuvassa näkyvä arvoitus.

Kiikari silmille, ja arvelu osoittautui oikeaksi. Urosmetson pää pilkottaa hangelta, tykyn peittämän koivupuskan takaa.

Metson tarkkaavaisuus kasvaa (keskimmäinen kuva), eikä se päästä hiihtäjää aivan likelle, mutta kymmenen metrin päähän kuitenkin (oikea kuva). Sitten se päätti hypätä lentoon. Pakkasta oli keskipäivän kohtaamisessa noin 15 astetta.

On a cold early February day the trees in the Rakitsa hills and fells are covered by thick rime. Any black spot in the white forest will raise attention of the skiier, like the black spot in the leftmost photo.

By looking through binoculars, your quess was right. A male capercaillie is hiding in the snow.

The bird bacame alerted (the photo in the middle) in front of the skiier, and soon was ready to take - off (photo in the right). On a cold day (about -15 degrees) like today, the capercaillies do not want to fly, and they let you come even to a distance of 10 meters, before they jump to the air.
